You did what you had to do to keep yourself safe. No one should be treated like utter crap by the person who's supposed to care about them. You deserve better then that.

I say you go out to the petshop and buy yourself a new betta. You deserve something extra special to lift your spirits and animals can help so much with their pure energy.

Thanks guys. I can't get another fish, as I am already 2 over my self-imposed limit. But I have been sitting with my dogs, horses and bird. My fish are at school, and I'll see them later today.

Aw, I am so sorry- it never feels good or easy, no matter what the circumstances. You definitely did the right thing though. Just remember your number one priority needs to be you. When you put yourself and your needs first, you are a more balanced person and in the big picture will be a better partner to someone else as well. (In translation, go spoil yourself! Chocolate, wine, fish, what ever your vice is ;) Not everyone we meet is supposed to happen to us forever (in fact very few- maybe only one- is forever) but they are all still supposed to happen. It's never wasted time, and it sounds like you learned a lot from this experience. Little lessons are like tools we acquire- go build something wonderful with them :) I am sorry you are hurting, but its only temporary. Congrats on a fresh start. You will go far!
