Poor Sumo =(

Sumo's tail has been getting worse and worse.. at first i wasn't even sure it was fin rot, but it must be. I hoped some kosher salt and more water changes in his 10 gallon would help enough but it hasnt, so now I've stuck the poor little dude into QT and he HATES it, it is just a little cup, i was worried nothing else could safely float/be taped in his 10 gallon.

Are these the right steps to be taking? I premixed the salt treatment about an hour or so ago in a half gallon container (so i used half a teaspoon) and treated it with Prime, then after that filled the cup with that treated water, let it float in his tank for a awhile, then put him in.
He seems very unhappy on now being confinded to one little corner of his tank and is acting like he really wants out

Anyways, I've attached a picture of his tail that i took a few days ago, he's missing alot of long rays he used to have. This is the first sick betta I have ever had besides my first betta Chairman Mao who i only had for 3/4 days =( Let me know if you think i should be doing something differently/anymore advice... and how long i should keep up this treatment.
Shmehhh

It doesn't look like he has blackened edges, so I'm not sure it's fin rot. It could be tail biting, but it's hard to tell with a crown tail! If it is finrot, the aquarium salt treatment will get rid of it. If it is tail biting, the aq treatment will also be helpful in preventing secondary infection. So either way, I think your treatment plan is good. Keep up the treatment for 7-10 days. I hope he starts feeling better soon!

when my boy chomped on his fins, the ends looked almost feathery, from what I've gathered from various pictures, feathery ends appears to be biting.

Forgot to add: do 100% water changes every day during his salt treatment.

I think you should at least move him into slightly larger container if he seems too stressed out. If it is not a fin rot and he is just tail biter, unnecessary treatment may cause more harm.

My betta does. It's so frustrating, and nothing I do makes him stop! I got home today and saw his tail even shorter and more tattered than usual. >:(
