bettas cant really hear things but they can feel vibrations. though they probably cant remember there own name because they never knew it because they probably dont have the brain capacity to understand human language to any extent. even if they do they probably just cant remember their name because they have never heard it thus never knowing it.

I don't think he responds to his name, he's responding to seeing you.

Bettas CAN remember voices, because they pick up vibrations in the water. My betta responds to my voice and not my mom's.

responds when the light comes on and top of the hood opens.. he knows its feeding time :)

now that is instinct, not so much smarts? I am not sure but it still is cool for a little fish to do that

Its a conditioning thing, they hear/feel your voice, associate with food or interaction (aka, "good things") and then link the two, so they respond.

Though I personally think my betta knows me...and hates me. Hes such a jerk. .__.

Lol, I completely agree. When I am sitting on my bed (a good 6-8 ft away from the tank) and I say "Fishy" he automatically swims from where ever he is to look for me:) I luffles my Fishy:)

Whether a betta knows his name or not (and honestly, who can say they truly know? ;D ), it's awesome he does that, swhitt.

I'm sure they feel vibrations, and based on the frequency and *nerdy nerdasaur nerd talk* of the sound, they can probably feel differences between your voice, Mom's voice, brother's voice, etc.
That's my guess anyway.
