Surprise - I have fry this morning!

I wrote in an earlier post that my pair spawned but that it appeared that the male ate most of the bubble nest and eggs.

I left him in the spawning tank as he seemed to be tending what was left of the nest. This morning I checked on him again and I saw about 10 fry hanging and free swimming at the surface. (there may be more but this is the nimbler I could clearly see.)

It has been 3 days since the spawn and I have infusoria going.

When do you think I should start feeding them?

I also have a hatch n feeder brine shrimp hatchery that I could attach to the tank for freshly hatched brine shrimp - what timing would you recommend for that?

I was pleasantly surprised to find the fry - there aren't many so hoping I can grow them out successfully!

Same thing is happening with me! Mine spawned yesterday afternoon and I can't see any eggs. Guess I'l just leave him in there xD.
They don't need to be fed until they are free-swimming (horizontally swimming). They can live off their yolk sacs for a while but once they free swim, that means they are hunting for food. ^^ Good luck!!

I wouldn't use the automatic feeder. You don't know how much it'll be releasing and you can't control feedings the way you can if you feed manually.

Thanks for the input. I guess we'll have to compare notes since the same thing has happened to both of us!

Maybe I can use the hatch n feeder on another small tank and then introduce the baby BBS a bit later. How early will they eat baby BBS?

The female's fins got a bit torn during mating - how long does it usually take for her fins to heal? I want her to get back to normal before breeding her again...

No - both are halfmoon.

The female is a double tail.. I just can't tell if the male is. Crossing DTxDT will yeild a LOT of genetic deformities.

Thanks for letting me know that. Any other combos to avoid genetically speaking?

I read up some on genetics but did not read this in the materials I found.

Well anything mixed with CT is going to yeild ugly fins in the first generations but that's not necessarily a genetic mutation so the fry will still be healthy.. just not so pretty. In second and third generations they get nicer.

Rose tails should also be avoided because they also have genetic defects.
