Easter Spawns

... its all beat2020's fault! We got to chatting and the next thing I know I've got two pairs in spawning tanks

The first pair is Bubba, my blue DT.


And one of the new girls from the trio I just got.


I'm not entirely sure I'll get a spawn from them because the female is only like 12 weeks old but she seems responsive so we'll see. She's the perfect size to try Bubba out because he's on the smaller size body wize. Last night when I put them in the tank she showed stress bars but was not acting stressed. This morning she's colorful and barred up and there's a little nest under some frogbit. I forgot to cover both tanks last night so the nests aren't what they should be.

The second pair I originally was going to try out was my DTHMPK male and a cambodian female from the reds I got recently, however they were way too different in size and neither seemed particularly interested. The reds are still young so she's probably just not ready yet.

So, instead I chose Russell, my HM multi BF.


And Venus, my blue/green MG butterfly who I spawned with Dan a few weeks ago.


Both of them seem responsive and there's a nice nest this morning. I had originally wanted to breed Russell with another female but she's totally unresponsive to males it seems.

I'm probably going to release the girls later today or maybe tomorrow.

I probably did, I haven't checked the mail in several days, I'll go do that now.

Well I went ahead and released the little female. My spidey senses were tingling and it just felt like the right time. So far Bubba has been pretty gentle. He is chasing a bit but not too much. The advantage of her being small and nimble and him being large and very finny is that she can easily escape from him through the java moss and guppy grass in the tank.

The other pair I'm going to wait a little longer because Russell seems much more aggressive than Bubba.

Today I came home to nips in both the female's caudals. Still no spawning so far. I turned the tank lights on a few minutes ago so hopefully they'll get busy soon.

That's what I told them. I said quit being butt heads or those girls might get mad and retaliate.
