torn fins..

so uh, my 10 gal divided tank has 2 bettas, there was a little bit of space in the back where he could have jumped, i just didnt think at the time he really WOULD.. and one of them (the one in my avatar) decided that hes going to jump over into the female side...

k lets just say he got pretty beat up by her. his tail is in pretty bad shape. but he isnt clamping or or anything like that. hes pretty chill actually, acting like nothings happened.
the female is fine though... she pretty much got away with no injuries.

anything to help with the torn tail/fins?

Since it just happened and you have been maintaining the water quality to start and he is otherwise acting and eating his normal self.....I would just do an increase of water changes for a week or so......10gal filtered needs a 50% weekly with vacuum on a regular basis...I would add-50% water only for the next 2 days and then add a 50% water only the next week along with the regular 50% with vacuum...

I would also increase his food intake for a week or so....high protein meals in small frequent feedings....

At any time you see a change in behavior or the fins look to be getting worse...I would QT in a small container that can be floated in the heated tank (76F) and start a 10 day aquarium salt 1tsp/gal treatment along with 100% daily water changes......

This exact same thing happened to me over the weekend, except it was my female who did the jumping into troubled waters. Both of my babies got quite roughed up... but oddly enough, they both seem HAPPIER than ever now. o_O

Sorry I have no advice to offer... I just thought it was a funny coincidence. I hope all of our fishies get better soon.

how long do you guys think its going to take for the fins to grow back? i know finrot is something to watch out for now that hes pretty torn.. but it shouldnt be too much of a threat as long as my water is clean right?

Regrowth rate varies...generally you will start to see the start of new growth within a day or so, however, depending on how bad the injury, infection, ray involvement, genetic, age, nutrition and water quality....it may take longer and often in really bad cases especially in older fish they never return to their full glory....full regrowth can take weeks to months.....
