Ghostie Shrimpie Questions~

If I were to get Ghost Shrimp for my future new betta (going to the city this Friday!) in my 14 Gallon tank,

A) How many could I get?

B) What do I feed them? And how often?

C) Any special requirements?

And yes, I'm aware of the risks the ghosties have with bettas :) I'll provide lots of cover, as I hope to be getting live plants as well.

Ghost shrimps will predate on each other if the tank is too small. Bettas will eat them because they are tasty (it's hard being a tasty animal)!

There have been discussions on this in the past here... try doing a search.

I personally had no luck with them, but the tank they were in was way too small. Ghost shrimp need a surprising amount of territory to be happy and non-predating. I forget how much at the moment... but you'll find it in your search, and you'll be surprised, too.... good night... :)

Don't forget to throw a bottom-feeder pellet in there once a week. I found out the hard way that those guys need more than algae. :C

Yeah, I figured they needed more than algae, so thats why I asked. Thanks for your help ^^ No one else has posted here besides you and Fishy... I did do my own search, but did not get many results.

I'm not sure how much space they need. I had three in a 5gal with my betta, Sir Crispin. They all got along until I removed the troublesome male shrimp. Aaaand, it looks like my fishy ate the two females shortly after. They're nowhere to be found.

I did actually buy them for my fish to hunt/harass/eat, so I guess it worked. xD

I have 7 in my 10 gallon with a betta, they have been in there for a few months with no problems.

In a 14 gallon you could get 7+ they hardly have a bioload.
Feed daily, mine tend to eat the left overs of food.
They like sinking shrimp pellets alot. Mine will actually carry it around the tank with them.
If you use aquarium salt be careful since it could harm them.

They don't have ghost shrimp on there but snowball shrimp have the same requirements as ghost shrimp.

I wish mine could get left over food. Sir Crispin seems to have a black hole for a stomach.

My betta does too, he will eat everything up but the shrimp steal it from him and carry it to their colony in the back of the tank. They take like 3 shrimp pellets and just ravage it.

Ghost shrimp usually die easier because they are transported further than other shrimp that are obtained within the states. Ghost shrimp also are harder to breed because they are lower life form shrimp, meaning the eggs hatch in a larvae stage. These shrimp larvae need blackish water

i have 3 shrimp in my 10gal with my male Kane...he doesnt even care they are there..they eat anything that hits the ground
