Genetics Question

Ill start off by saying, by no means do I plan to breed anytime soon, if even at all. Im just getting back into bettas from a long break, and will just enjoy keeping them right now. So I placed a bid on the awesome betta below, and hopefully Ill get him. Ive seen bettas like him with an all black body, a black fire betta. Im wondering what female he would have to spawn with to produce fry with black bodies and red/orange fins like his? Is it something that would have to be done over a few generations? Im new to betta genetics, and just curios if anyone had an answer.

well he does have dragon in him so the black body would have to be accuired after generations to get the dragon out of the line. but personally i like the dragon in him. good luck .hope you get him.

Thanks for the reply, I like the dragon in him too. Now what if I wanted to produce fry with darker red fins than him? Would he have to spawn with a super red female? Sorry, these questions might sound pretty newb, I'm just curious about betta genetics.

if you bred himm with a red bodyed female you might risk ruining the black body of the fry. but if you breed him with a female with dark red fins and a black body. then you will be good. and its okay. we were all newbs at one point and i still am newbish.

I'd risk ruining the body even if I wanted to keep the dragon colored body? If the female had a red body, but also had dark red fins.

idk exactly but i would wait for one of the more professional breeders but thats wat i know.

It would save you so much time if you just purchase a fish with the black body and red fins that you desire.

I forgot to mention that NIB Betta has a spawn of bettas that might interest you. I'm not sure if any are for sale yet though.

That's a good point, my bid won on the male I posted, there was a black fire male that was amazing, but I got outbid. They seem a little hard to come by. But yep, I checked out NIB Bettas thread.
