Slight Bloat

Housing
What size is your tank? Normal is 10g, however he is in a 1g QT tank rightnow.
What temperature is your tank? 10g 78-80. 1g is 78
Does your tank have a filter? yes
Does your tank have an air stone or other type of aeration? yes
Is your tank heated? yes
What tank mates does your betta fish live with? yes 3 ghost shrimp, 1 apple snail.

Food
What type of food do you feed your betta fish? Bettamin flakes ( I know that pellets are better but I have tried all and he wont eat them), and Frozen Brine Shrimp.
How often do you feed your betta fish? Flakes 1x everyday except saturday, and 2-3 FBS every other day 1x, again except saturday that is his fast day.

Maintenance
How often do you perform a water change? in the 10g 30% every week, on the 1g QT tank 100% every day.
What percentage of the water do you change when you perform a water change?^^
What type of additives do you add to the water when you perform a water change? Prime and on the 10g stress zyme.

Need to get a new test kit but have to wait till the end of May so I am changing slightly more water than normal to stay ahead of it.

Symptoms and Treatment
How has your betta fish's appearance changed? Slight bloat.

When did you start noticing the symptoms? about 2 days ago
Have you started treating your fish? If so, how? He is in a QT tank and fasting for a couple days.

How old is your fish (approximately)? 8 months


Hes has been in a holding tank with daily water changes till he got acclitmated to the well water. we have high calcium and I had them in bottled water till we got a better filter onthe house. About 2 days ago he started to look alittle bloated, he doesn't eat much and I have never had this problem with him before. Any other help would be great.

How frustrating! It may be the food that you have him on. It's hard to consistently feed the right amount when giving flakes. I hope the fasting helps.

So did he start to look bloated when he was in the bottled water or was that after you switched to the well water?

It was kind of in the middle. He was in about 50/50 of each when it started. He is looking better now, I can't really say wether its the food or not because he has been on this diet for almost three months and I haven't had a problem till now.

To understand.......you kept him in bottled water and now you are switching him to your well water (good idea btw) and the well water is being filtered through a home water filter first...correct.....

Bloat-the whole body is swelling or just the tummy area and he is otherwise acting his normal self...correct......

At the moment I can't post a pic, I will try later. Yes they were in bottle now on well, and yes it is going through a filter. The bloat seems to be just his tummy, and he is acting normal.

Sometimes the home filter systems changes one Ion for another that is worse for the Betta.....I would use just the well water and bypass the water filter unless this is a true R/O unit and then I would add the minerals that are removed by the unit or 50/50 R/O and unfiltered well water......

Ok I was able to get a couple pics, they are with my phone so they aren't the best. I keep looking at him and to me he looks a little bloated and by little I mean little, but he also has a white spot under his tummy that kind makes him look bigger sometimes to. He is a butterfly but I think he is going to be more of a marble his fins are slowly changing fron clear to red.

The only thing that the filter does is remove a small amount of calcium because it is to high.

He is doing much better tonight. The bloat looks to be gone and he is pooping good. He is just being his crazy little self, I think I will fast him one more day though to be on the safe side. I will also leave him in the QT for a few more days to keep a good eye on him.
