Please help me identify this LPS betta!

I bought this betta from a LPS a couple of years ago. I am very fond of him, yet...I can't figure out what species he is! He was identified as a VT, but his fins are not long and flowing. He has a bit of a rosetail thing going on. His dorsal fin always lies nearly flat. Do you guys think he is some kind of cross? I know he is probably a poor quality fish (who I never considered breeding), but I am just curious...What is this guy?

He looks like a VT to me, his caudal is a bit torn though. With proper care it might grow back a bit :)

Just a side note on terminology, bettas are all the same species (Betta splendens). VT, HM, SD etc are just different tail types that Betta splendens can have :)

Thank you! I have had this guy for quite a while, and his tail has always looked like that (weird)? I am still learning about bettas. The more I can learn, the better! Thank you for your quick reply!

he looks like a round tail to me and if he is a lfs who has halfmoons in stock then he is a roundtail. the reason his tail isn't long and flowy is because he is not a veiltail. see how his tail doesnt come to a point.

Yup, just looks like a regular veiltail boy to me. :) He's very pretty! I love his coloring.

I say he's a veil tail. Looks just like my VT when he spreads his tail.

He's a VT. Might still be a little young and not fully finned out but definitely a VT.
