I wish someone could help me out with the clean rubberband, sponge trick.. I have my betta in a 1g QT tank for fin rot/stress and got his new 5g tetra crescent which uses the same filter as you mentioned I believe. It is on the lowest setting, but

is a trick to fill the water level above the lip where it says WHISPER?

Also, where does the sponge portion go when doing the baffle? and where would the rubberband go to hold it?

Don't worry.
I have the same filters in 3 of my tanks and all three of the betta's love to swim in and out of the filter. I have had them for a year and haven't had any problem with them getting stuck or hurt in it.

I wouldn't let them do that....No matter what type of filter. Never know Yes a baffle with a sponge or plastic bottle cut up properly. Good luck!

^ Agreed. That's why I posted this thread. I'm worried that if he does it again, he might not be able to turn his body around to at least get air. I wouldn't like to see a drowned fish. :(

I AM planning on upgrading both boys to nicer tanks with external filters, so a temporary fix should be OK. Octo doesn't seem like he's bright enough to swim into the filter, so I'm not worried about him. Hestia/Nero, I'm a bit worried.

YUP!

I do NOT like the bottle filter baffle & just WISH it wasn't a sticky!!! ESPECIALLY after one of the posters here some time ago posted about her fish swimming into it, couldn't get back out & drowned.

IMO, the sponge/foam baffle is SO much better and safer. Wish they would sticky THOSE directions!!!!

Since the betta died, I guess it got "hurt".
