Nothing I do for Sir Lefty seems to be working. Well, for his fins, anyway. The rest of him seems fine now, except that he spazzes out every so often. But his fin rot is SO bad that I can see pieces of his rays on the bottom of his QT tank. I've been working with him for a while with Aqua salt, and right now I'm using 3 tsps a gallon because of how severe it is. I don't know what to do. He just sits in a corner at the top of his QT tank for the most part. He seems to have a LOT of trouble moving around. He seems so tired and worn out, I'm thinking of putting him down. It just seems like his quality of life is completely gone, and I don't want him to suffer. But the way he wiggles at me still shows that he has life left in him. I also have noticed that sometimes he has trouble staying upright, and almost floats on his side. Thoughts? He is just breaking my heart.
Try epsom salt.. My boy was laying on his side not going up for air and he started to pinecone and he had fin rot (all his CT rays were falling off and landing at the bottom of his qt tank). I put 2 tsp of empson salt per gallon in his QT tank and did 100% daily water changes for 7 or 8 days and he is 100% brand new now! He's as lively as ever.
I already did an Epsom salt treatment, but his fin rot is SO severe that I HAVE to use Aquarium salt. Epsom salt does nothing for the fins. Could I use both together? I tried that one day, but I don't know if it's safe really.
That's the thing. I'm not sure, and he seems to be wiggling around more lately, which is what he did when he was healthy. I'm going to give it another week. I'm not ready to give up on him yet. My main concern is his horrible fins! He actually seems happier now that he's in an area where he can see me constantly. I think that may help him recover.
sometimes, bettas do better with less finnage. just keep a check on the fin rot, and if it gets too close to his body, find a way to get meds. once it reaches the body, it turns into body rot, and i've heard that's fatal. ;A;
I would try using Maracyn 1 and 2 together. This is what Lupin recommended to me because finrot is usually bacterial and not fungal. Or you can use tetracycline.I know a lot of people don't like using medication but if you've tried everything else and it's not working then I'd try it.
