Its hard to say, really. But they both need a heater, and one that keeps the water at least at 76'.

She may just not be showing signs of distress as he is.

Sorry, btw- I misread and thought you had not heater >.<" fjsadkflhasdkjfh

But yes, a clean thermometer should be fine to test, or at least a ball park. Its worth buying the fish ones though, theyre like a dollar or two.

Did the fish in that article look like yours? No, right? That is actual velvet.

I think something else is up with him, and that lightness on his head is paleness. Its not fuzzy, right?

I have the Tetra Submersible heater for 2-15 gallon aquariums but my husband put it in and the whole heater isnt in water. He left some of it out could that be a problem with the heater?

Yes, this is probably a large problem. At least put the entire grey part in. Opt for like half of the black top part. Its fully subersable, so dont be scared.

These are notoriously BAD heaters. Ive had a few, as have other members, and they just suck. :( I have a feeling your heater may not be on at all (if not in the water right, it wont turn on) or its at like 74' or lower, which theyre known for. I had one that kept mine at a balmy 70' maximum :(

Try to return this if you can. They usually take them back. Opt for a better one, like the marineland, which is a little more expensive but it works and you wont need a new one any time soon. ($18 or less)

Did you check the temp? :c

There is finally a better picture of him. The thermometer was a bad idea out of three thermometers none of them gave me a temp at all. I checked they were all working. So I dont know about that.

Edit: I did push the heater in further down.

I've heard of people using a meat thermometer to check the temperature of the water. I don't know if you have one, but if you do, you could use a [CLEAN] one and check the temp of the water every few hours until you can get a good heater and thermometer.
