I would start with some water changes....50% for the next 2 days and see if this will help...is his appetite still good....

In a 3gal filtered tank I would make twice weekly water changes of 50%....1-50% water only and 1-50% to include the substrate vacuuming or stir and dip method to maintain water quality......since you have a filter you don't need the 100%.....

Yes you definitely need to test your water parameters (preferably with a liquid test kit). As OFL said, the 100% a week change won't cut it. That may have been part of the reason the for the fin loss.

All of her other fins look great and I just made the switch to these tanks/ water changing schedule a 1.5 weeks from when I wrote this. She lost her fin before that when I was doing 100% water changes 3x a week in 1.5 gal. I thought I could cut it down to 1x in the new ones. I now know that I was wrong, but I really hope/ don't think that its related to fin rott. Was I making changes too infrequently in the 1.5 gal? Does fin rot take it's toll that quickly?

I apologize for not responding to everyone I really do appreciate the help, I have been going 50% water changes every other day and will be dropping down to 2x a week. She is doing great now :).

Thanks so much for your help
