Gravel vs Stones

Hi everyone!

Im new to this site and I am going to be purchasing my new betta shortly. I have had betta's in the past but never knew how much I was doing wrong. So this time I want to get it right.

So I am sorry if this question has been done before I did try and look for it but I couldn't find it.

Which is better gravel or stones?

Thanks everyone!

Well, I prefer gravel myself but I don't think there would be much of a difference really.

Ive used both, stone is so much easier to clean , than the gravel. Gravel i think though helps to produce healthy bacteria for the tank

smaller tanks that you have to do 100% changes on I'd go with stones, for bigger tanks I'd personally rather do gravel or sand

My 10 gallon has sand in it right now. IMO I wish I would have went with gravel. The sand is a pain when your trying to vacum the bottom. Sand does look nice in the tank but I think more headaches then its worth. My next tank will be a nice natural gravel.

I think sand is cool, but on a fresh water aquarium sounds totally wrong on my head, is like a fake salt water tank, you know? xD!

I know there's ponds with sand and everything but it just don't quite connect right on my head... Hahahha xD!

+1. Go with gravel. My 10g also has sand, and getting the poop sucked up at a water change just doesnt happen, I'll have to use a turkey baster. Even though all the gunk goes in between gravel, it is easier to clean.

From other posts on this site, I believe that gravel is also better substrate if you are planning on having live plants.

What type of a setup are you planning on?

I dunno.. after posting on here this morning my boyfriend and I went to the pet store this afternoon I am actually setting up the tank right now.. feel a little overwhelmed but i think I`m getting it.

We went with stones my boyfriend liked them better and since he was paying lol.
I bought a 5g tank with a cave sort of thing and one plant that he can rest on.

We didn`t get a heater cuz they were out of stock and we are going to be hitting another store tomorrow, lucky for him my apartment is over 80`cuz they haven`t turned on the ac yet.

Fingers crossed that I have done everything right so far! Wouldn`t of been able to do half of it with out the help of everyone on here!!

Artificial plant?

I like the look of stones better, too.
