I just had to share because what happened was too adorable. I popped into the LFS on the way home today just to look at the fishies and visit this beautiful red macaw that lives there.
I steered towards the bettas and it wasn't five minutes when two little girls came up and told me that THEY had a betta, a red one just like that one. There were many red VTs for sale so I wasn't sure which one they meant. I'm sure it was the one I eventually took home though (pics soon!).
They became very chatty and them proceeded to ask me about a hundred betta questions! I was a little toungue tied after awhile, so I tried to make an excuse and leave the two kids, but the younger girl grabbed my hand and told me that there was a fish that they were VERY scared of, and would it bite them? I thought it was a pirhana or a barracuda or something, but no ... it was a shy yellow gourami boy. Does he bite? they asked. What are those stringy things? Is it a baby? What do they eat? etc etc *onto the next tank, repeat* (by the fifth or sixth time I was sort of BSing ... but *shhh!*)
Finally, after about twenty minutes, the two of them had to go home. I gave a small sigh of relief, but I was also feeling VERY happy that I talked to them about bettas. I hope that the two girls got something out of my impromptu feild trip, maybe a first step towards responsible fishkeeping!
