New plants for Herbie!

Herbie's plant recently died from an algae outbreak in my tank. :( He was very sad that his plant was gone even though he has a hut to hide in so I went to petsmart to buy him some stuff to make up for it. I got an anubia and a Marimo moss ball! The moss ball is to help stop another algae outbreak. I got the anubia because he loved his last one and he needed some smooth leaves to sleep on. Hope he's happy with my choices!

I haven't posted on here in forever so here's a little update. Herbie now has his 2.5g to himself as someone suggested. His little african dwarf frog friends have gone to heaven. I was so sad!! They both got chytrid (a very contagious and hard to deal with disease that attacks aquatic frogs)

What are your experiences with anubias do you and your betta like them?

I've got an Anubias. It's veeeeery slow growing, but I really like the look of it. My fish don't seem to care. I guess it's just part of the landscape for them!

One thing I would suggest. If you had an algae outbreak, it's likely that your tank is getting too much light. Anubias really doesn't like bright light (its leaves turn yellow and grow all warped), and it doesn't grow fast enough to outcompete the algae. You might want to reduce the light to your tank.

Oh, and also, don't bury the rhizome. It will kill the plant. I didn't know that at first and was stumped when the plant began to rot. Thought I'd share. :) Good luck with your fish and your plants! It sounds like you've got a nice setup.

Thanks for the help! I think i'll draw something nice and tape it to the back of the tank. Hopefully, that'll block the light.

Also, thanks for mentioning the rhizome (sorry, I probably just butchered the spelling). I was about to go ahead and burry it.
