Question Fin Repair

Hi, its me again! i haven't been on much lately, but i found a reason too!

Anywho, i'm taking care of my brothers betta, (i'm trying to make that a permanent thing!) and his fins are ripped from poor water, i did a 100% water change, added thermometer, gravel, and plant. I'm wondering if there is any salt i could use or treatment to help enhance fin repair.

P.S. i lectured him because he wasn't feeding him, hes practically starving, but i'm feeding him so he can get nice and plump once more, (i'm not going to bloat him though!)

Thank You For Your Help, BG (my real name is Emma!) ;)

Depending on how badly they're ripped I would probably just keep up with water changes and a high protein diet. You could try a product like stress coat... (has aloe and is suposed to help with healing) If it gets worse I would start him up on some aquarium salt 1tsp per gallon.

Harley recently had a ripped tail fin. I used a combination of frequent water changes (100% daily while in a 1g QT bowl), new water conditioner (changed to Seachem Prime (promotes the production and regeneration of the natural slime coat) and used aquarium salt for 10 days. His fin's rip is now gone and looks great. Good luck!

Won't epsom salt help too? OFL says the good thing about Epsom salt is that it's not harmful for the fish in a long term matter, if I remember well.

Oh yeah, i put that in 'cause i thought some kind of salt worked..... anywho, there is another problem, (i know, right!?!) he got discoloration all over, so instead of being a dark stunning blue with lazer red streaks in his fins, he is a mixture of light brown and tint of ripped red.

i still love him.

Epsom salt really should only be used as a 20-25 minute dip for constipation. It can be harmful in the long run (I think). You should def. Ask OFL. She's the betta guru ^_^

Clean water, heat (78-80•F), and 1tsp/g of aquarium salt should really help...but only use the salt for about 10 days or so.
