10 gallon set-up

Ok guys, I am wanting suggestions.

Just purchased a 10 gallon for my AB betta. It does not have a hood. The filter and filter media I am using has been cycled. The tank will be running about a week including live plants.

What I am asking for is any extra suggestions about going hood-less. The top will be covered in anacharis he will be placed in a semi-active place, will have good hiding spots, my water parameters are always consistent, the water stays warm, and there will also be a moss ball and another rooted plant, as well as more plants later on. I also plan on lowering the water by about 2 inches.

Any other tips?? Thanks everyone!

Mesh! Either plastic or canvas?

And I know there are other floating plants that are larger, they look like lily pads. Frogbit is noice, too. Water sprite as well!

Yes, I plan on adding more plants. :3

The plan is cover it with seran wrap with holes until I can get some duck weed or something so it is more covered. But I will see because I will be using about 7 or so LARGE pieces of anacharis which might cover it.

Should I put in some almond or indian leaf extract to darken the water for him so he feels more secure?

Hmm...I know a lot of people buy play sand, but I never have D; They sell a bunch of good ones at the Home Depot, though.

I think if you bake it after its soaked it helps get rid of any nasties, if that helps D;
