It can matter depending on what kind of a tank you have, how much light your tank has to offer the plant, etc. There used to be a thread with plants listed that was by PewPewPew but for the life of me I can't find it anymore.

I've had the best luck with cabomba and java ferns. Whisteria, hornwort and mundo grass have done well too but I definitely love the first two better. I have lights on all of my aquariums for at least 7 hours a day, too, and I give them plant food. The fish -love- them.

Nope, I don't think so. Most of what you'd find at pet stores will all be alright as long as you take care of them. :) They only stand to make your tank better!

just a note, some of the plants in the tubes at like petco/petsmart, aren't actually aquatic. they'll eventually rot and die and do horrible things to the water as well

Before buying any aquarium plant do research!

Some plants are really difficult and expensive to care for. Others you plop them in and they live forever. Don't get yourself stuck!

Definite fit the plant to your water & tank, not the other way around!

Good luck! ;D

Also, different plants have different needs, like fertilizing, lighting, etc.
