Yeah, but that reading wasn't from recently--it was from when OP first set up the tank, I think.

OP, it seems as if you hadn't been cleaning the bottom of your tank. And perhaps that you had been letting food sit down there. Both of those things can cause water quality to deteriorate, so that might be what was causing the problems.

The good news is that Steve took a nibble off of a piece of shrimp today. That is a big improvement. I would like to think the worst is over. We shall see...we shall see...

This is for closure. I used an ammonia neutralizing product in Steve's water. It has been about 18 hours. Steve has his color back. His fins are full and vibrant. He ate some food. He is also swimming around and checking things out. I put a new plant in to give him more things to swim around.

Thanks for all the help. I am glad my beta survived my inexperience.
