Beware of Small Betta Plant

I had a "Small Betta Plant" from Petco in with my new girl and it leaked green dye into her water overnight. When I pulled it out, the top layer of the green fabric was dissolving into a slimy mess.

Save your $1.99 and get a plastic plant or a more expensive fabric plant.

In the meanwhile, I'll keep monitoring my poor girl after her close encounter with dye. So far, she's okay but disapppointed she lost her plant.

*sigh* That's disappointing... you might expect that problem using ordinary silk plants... not plants designed for aquatics.

E-mail the manufacturer and nicely explain what happened and how disappointed you were. Maybe they'll send you a good silk plant, or some such thing.

I would definitely take it back to your lps and ask for a refund/store credit.

My single betta is very fond of her plant. She likes to sleep on it/near it. So I can understand how bummed your betta must feel. Hopefully you'll find something better, maybe in the same shape? Good luck!

I've had that same plant in my tank for 6 months now. Maybe yours came from a bad batch. (Mine is fine.)

Hopefully it was just a bad batch but one way or another, it's going back to Petco along with the other two "silk" plants I bought carrying their brand name. My poor girl - it was her first night in a new home so she was hiding in its leaves. I don't know if this was a factor but it was in a smaller QT container, not a large tank.

Intersting. I have several of their silk plants and never had any issues with them. I will keep an eye on them though - just in case.

Sakura8,

I have several Petco silk plants in my tanks, and never had an issue. I've even scrubbed them and lightly bleach them (always spot test first), and they're fine...

Oh my! Just get a live plant. Java fern and java moss are foolproof.
