Haha, well, its NOT ONLY for you that I like over-clarifying. Other people who may not know, might think its ok not to wash their hands after using nail-polish remover, ;) And its bad for you as well as your fish, especially if its acetone-based (it absorbs into the skin quickly and may be linked to cancer ;)) No worries, I think it was a great question(definitely not just a newb question!)

What about fresh acrylic nails? I plan on getting some this summer, and fill-ins every so often, so on the days I get my nails filled in, would the chemicals the salon use harm my fish if I need to put my hand in the tanks for any reason?

Couldn't you use rubber gloves just to be on the safe side?

I don't have any rubber gloves. It's okay, I've been careful not to leave any chips of nailpolish or anything in the tank. It's all been resolved ^^

+10, easily the best way to avoid these can buy them at any store for like $3 (some LPS sell them too!)

Also, theoretically it depends on what kind of nail polish it is. If you're using some cheap kid's nail polish you got at the dollar store, I'd probably think that stuff washes off bits of chemical fairly easily.

Acrylic nails should technically be fine, tanks are made of acrylic. Not sure what that glue is made of though.
