Snails and Betta's

I just got 20 snails to day and i out 10 in the 20 gel breeding tank with my male and female and they both hit the snails some times i was wondering how long this will go on for and if i should take out the snails of any thing like that help ?

What kind of snails and how big are they,..and this is a 20gal spawning tank with the male and female together...and you say-the Bettas hit the snails...what do you mean? how often are they doing it...etc.....

The are all bigger than A nickle and some bigger than that
They are Blue Mystery snails
Yes the male and female in the spawning tank free running.
When he hits the snails it is like when he hits the female and looks like the is trying to bit them.
The female does the same thing and they dont do it as often now

It sounds like a normal reaction to new livestock especially in a spawning situation when the male can be even more aggressive...... 20 snail the size of a nickle in a 20gal spawning tank is about 18-19 too many.....you may need to remove all but 1-2 since they will push the bioload and compete for food risking the Betta eggs once they spawn.....

Ok i only have 10 in there but i will take most out and leave the 2 biggest ones

Mystery snails will also eat eggs and newly hatched fry (I've seen it happen) so you might want to remove the snails temporarily once the pairs spawns, then you can put them back in once the fry are free swimming... Apple snails have a really high bioload and get pretty big so be careful how many you house in a single tank.

Thanks guys i have two 20 gal tank and one 10 gal tank so i will take out the other 2 snails and put them in the 20 gal tank with 12 of the other snails ( only my 20 gal breeding tank have fish in them so the snails have free run over the other 2 tanks )
