Betta bowl heater?

My grandmother has a blind Betta that spazzed out when we put him in a bigger tank. The only place he is happy is in his tiny 1/2 gallon bowl. she does daily 50% water changes on him and her house stays very warm so Im guessing his water probably stays at 68-70 degrees but i was wonderring about those flat Betta bowl heaters. Ive read some good and some bad reviews on them and just wondered if anyone here uses them and do they go in the Betta bowl under the gravel or under the Betta bowl on the outside? Any advice would be great, thanks :)

I purchased two 7.5W Hydor "bowl" heaters from Petco for $10 each - I can't seem to find them on their site though. I keep one in my 2.5g an it runs it at 80-82 degrees F. I have the other one in a 5g cube tank and it keeps it right at 76-78 degrees F. I keep them under the gravel. So far I really like them!

Thanks. Undergunfire we will definatly look into getting him one or one similar then. I feel so bad for him being in that tiny bowl and the idea of him being cold makes it worse :(

One negative thing that I have noticed with the bowl heater is that when the heat is on in the house (never set higher then 72F), the 2.5g tank reaches up towards 84F. Generally its 62F in our house (run the heat less, so the bill is less!) and the tank stays at 80F-82F. So, I am not sure how the bowl heater would do if your house was always pretty warm.

before with what you get though i picked up one of these today

and had it in my 2nd , 2 gallon tank left it alone for probaly an hour or so and the tank was already up to 85 degrees.

for a half a gallon tank i would be really careful with anything
