So I've been considering giving spawning a try. I want to spawn my marble HMPK from ninebettas with a HM female. I'm going for a "green" marble line. I'd love to have one of the females from martinsmommy but being this is my first spawn and the males first go I don't really want to spend a whole bunch of money on a female until he is proven. So this is the female I've been looking at. What do you think of her? And any suggestions on my male, producing a marble line and what colors I might get from this pair? Thanks!
The female is not the best but then again you get what you pay for. Her dorsal could be better and her anal is a tad long. Not a bad fish overall though.
Your male needs work in his anal also. It's sort of halfway between symmetrical and asymmetrical so you'll need to decide which direction you want to go.
With this pair you'll get entirely long finned fish.
As for color it depends on the background of the fish. In general you'll probably get multicolors, marbles, and varying blues/greens.
IMO it would be a shame to get your male a "poor" female. He has great fins - but like 1f2f said you need to work on his anal a bit. I wouldn't cross him to a HM because it will make the anals even larger. Unless you want long finned of that pattern.
Decide the direction you want to go. If you want HM's, pair him to a HM and choose the longest fins and breed for F2 (IME you may get 100% short fin ..... so much for the theory). But if you want PK, you should get a PK female. IMO asymmetrical is easier than symmetrical. ........... your choice.

You might want to try asking Ninebettas if he has any females from your male's strain left. He'll get you pictures of them if you ask. The same goes for any other breeder for that matter. If you see a male and you like that pattern, just ask the breeder and they will probably be willing to sell you a female from the same spawn.

I think I'm going to hold off for now and see what Chard has in the way of CTPK's. That is what I really want to breed. I know that most people say you should stick with CtxCt but it's all relative. I mean CT's had to start somewhere and I'm sure they were a mess in the early stages too. I know it may take a few genertations to get nice ctpk's but it can be done.
Short fin + Long fin is used to strengthen HM lines. Great for the long fins but it produces bad short fins with long anals. I would try to find a better HMPK female.

Ninebettas rarely lists females but it's probably worth asking. He has more fish than are listed on aquabid.
Most thai sellers don't list females because generally if someone buys a male they're going to inquire about females as well unless they're just getting a pet.
Yep, I just bought 3 females from Ninebettas that weren't listed on AB. Just ask. You don't have to buy a male from him to get a female either. Same goes for most breeders. I rarely buy a female from the AB listing... I just inquire about females when I see a male with nice form/color.
