Ryu's first bubblenest and breeding questions

My 4 month male combtail just made his first bubble nest which is 4x5in (wide and long) Im proud of him :3 *sniff* they grow up so fast! Lol I was just wondering how many months male and females are considered "ripe" for breeding.

Also, how can I tell if a female is into a male other than the vertical stripes?

I consider betta i guess viable up to 2 years old however the number of fry dramatically drops as they get older.
Females will also besides getting the bars will swim head down and follow they male.
and combtails are gorgeous hopefully one day I will get one :p
