I took a trip to the beach! Sea shells?

I read that sea shells could be bad in a fish tank. If I clean them off well will they be okay in my fish's tank? Also, my boyfriend has a salt water tank, would they atleast be okay in there if not? They are pretty shells and I wanna use them cause it'd be cuteee

Not in freshwater, I don't know about saltwater, it might be a possibility.

I believe the general practice for bringing "foreign" objects is to boil them in hot water and maybe in vinegar, with lots of rinsing.

Chemistry-wise they should be okay in both tanks, although over time the Calcium Carbonate will cause the Alkalinity to increase (which may or may not be good)
