bubble nest finally!

My VT male finally stepped up and started a bubble nest, I did the "rain" thing that was mentioned for about 5 minutes yesterday and sure enough he had one started when I checked this morning. So far its not any bigger than a few long rows but at least there is progress.

I don't always wait for a nest when I spawn....some of mine don't make nest until they have eggs in their mouth......and some move the nest/eggs after they spawn anyway...lol.........make sure you don't have any water movement in the tank, add some tannins and cover the top of the tank with something to retain the heat and humidity to help keep the bubble nest from breaking up..

With hard to spawn breeders I have found using the shock method to work well......
I place the breeders in separate containers (neither in the spawning tank) so they can't see each other and mass feed mosquito larva-keeping the water temp in the 75-76F range or room temp for me...the spawning tank is kept at 80F......after a couple of days or three of mass feeding larva-At first light in the AM-I drop both breeders in the spawning tank at the same time to give them a little shock and usually I will have spawning within an hour or less.....

I wouldnt be to disappointed if he started on once he is more then likely to do it again... and I would leave the female in there like OFL said sometimes it takes eggs to motivate them to spawn for one of my males he didnt start till the female started chasing and nagging him
