I've got him in a plastic bowl right now (1 qt).
My female doesn't have a heater in her tank yet but she does have a lamp that acts the same way and my room in the summer never goes much below 80 degrees.

You'll want to get a heater for your girl before winter. A quart bowl is fine as long as it's covered and he doesn't jump out. Whatever you (and him) are comfortable with.

Thanks! So how will I know if/when he is healing? So far it looks like he's gotten worse.

The black edges on his fins won't progress any further and he won't lose any more of his fins. After a while - maybe a week or a little longer - you'll begin to notice new growth at the end of his tail and missing fins. I think new growth is usually like a clear membrane that colors in later.

It may get worse before it gets better. It's possible your betta's chewing his own fins off to get rid of the fin rot himself and he may continue to nibble at his fins for a while after.

You did the very best you could and took great care of him. It just may have been too much damage. :( I'm sorry.

Thank you. Do you think it would stress my female, Rosy Arrow, out too much to switch her to the ten gallon. I don't want to keep her in a smaller tank if there's a bigger one available but if it's too much stress for her then I'll just leave her.

I don't think so. Clean the tank really well with warm water and vinegar, making sure to rinse all the vinegar out. Once you've got the tank set up the way you want and it's filled, you can transfer Rosy Arrow to her new home. It'll help to keep an eye on her and make sure she has lots of places to hide. She might act different than normal for a few days until she settles in.
