Question I got a new filter and it bubbles?

I got a tetra wisper from petco today for my betta fish in his five gallon. I put it in and everything worked fine. But now about fifteen minutes later, it's starting to bubble over the top. It even pushes up the top that's covering it. Anybody know why? I hope I explained it good enough.

Did you follow the steps in the manual that came with it? Sometimes if you don't get the filter media in just right, it won't work properly. Filters can be touchy things.

Yeah, and for some reason it keeps doing it.

It could be plain defective. If you can, remove it and dry it off etc. and return it for another one.

The clear tube at the bottom has a cap at the bottom that can be adjusted. If it's bubbling when the cap is pushed on all the way, loosening it can help. Cap may be the wrong word, but you know you are loosening the right part if you see a black O-ring. It's the part of the white tube that the air hoes for the pump attaches to. Slide it down a bit without letting it fall off and the bubbles should travel through the filter a little slower. I've used tetra filters for years and I always have that problem when I'm using the filter for the first time. Once it's adjusted, the bubbles should stop in a bit. In fact, they may have stopped on their own before I wrote this response. Sakura8 is right about filters being touchy. Especially new filters. :)
