Someone tell me how nitrates could be about 40 in a 55gal tank with 2 koi/1 comet but 80 in a 300 gal pond, over roughly the same period of time. I'm so confused.

EDIT: Also, I can't tell if this little endler guppy adores my regular male guppy or is harassing him. He is constantly following him, sometimes really closely, but I don't see nipping from either one. What's going on?

Yay for driftwood! Did you ever figure out if you could seal up those spots with aquarium silicone? Personally, I don't see why not. I mean, the wood is already dead anyway so a little silicone shouldn't hurt it.

EDIT:

Here's a quick video of the guppies. What do you guys think is going on here? I don't see nipping. Big guppy's tail is still big and full.

From the first half of the video that I could watch (bad iPod), it looks like the endler is just challenging the guppy. It's what boys do. Endlers and gups are pretty close and do interbreed in the wild.
