Yes but there is the ethical question of providing a fish with enough room... Sure an aquarium will never compare to the wild, but we must always do our best in providing the fish with enough room to be at least comfortable.
I am convinced that they would have done fine without the oscar in there. 36 gallons is a lot of space.
Blame my innexperience for putting them together. You know a teenager thinking: Oh cool fish lets add them in. Dollars become snacks...

Our profiles say they need 4ft of space to swim. If you want you can read about them here. Never hurts to learn more about a fish, even if you don't have it anymore.

I agree with that! I read the profiles of fish I never plan on getting, just so I can learn about them.

My aquarium is actually 5 ;) But i agree i might have thrown in more than i should. They breeded though.
What dimensions do you have that your 36 gallon tank is 5 feet long? :s
My 90 gallon (340 liter) tank is 4 feet long.
It was custom made by my father when he was working as a glasser in my grandfathers shop.
Its almost 1.5 meters long. It was build to the exact specifications of base for housing my fathers battleship models
that was repurposed. The one i have now is also custom build, i never had a market aquarium.
