The one I left in the cup, just in case its ... gone.
I think if it was dead it would reek horribly..I got a pacakge of duckweed and I swear a snail died in there someplace. It smelled SO BAD i had to throw it out The same seller was also selling apple snails.

I want blueberry pie.

Aahnay - I did a quick search adn near as I can tell, as long as the trapdoor is tightly shut and there is no smell, the snail is alive.

If there is a foul odor, the trapdoor is easily removed or the shell is empty - the snail is dead. Some said if its not tightly closed, its also dead but I found that to be untrue. If they are in the process of going in or out of their shell - it's not going to be closed tight.

I have only ordered them once, the ones that came took about 3-4 days to open their doors and start moving.

WOW, do rotting snails stink! Holy hell, I washed my hands five times and couldn't get the funk off of me. I went and took a shower and I still have a slight odor on my hands. I may actually turn in my man card and use some of the wife's scented lotion on my hands to get rid of the smell!
japanese trapdoors are not hermaphrodite, but the femals can store sperm and give birth a few months down the road.

He's my baby boy and he's always loved boxes. I think it's because his first bed when we got him was a towel in a box. :3
