I don't know they are pretty aggressive. I had to upgrade her from her original tank when she outgrew it.
Djembekah, if you feel it's time to euthanise, I've found the ice water method to take only a few seconds. All I do is leave a container of water in the freezer until the top has frozen over. I smash the ice on the top and remove it from the container. I then net/catch the fish, put it in and it will generally swim around for a second or so. Then it will convulse a couple of times and then it will die.
I didn't like using clove oil on my bettas as even when I mixed it and added it slowly or added the full amount right away they seem to thrash around a lot more and look to be in a lot of distress.
Only other humane method is crushing the head of the fish and destroying the brain. This is quick, probably almost painless but it doesn't leave a very good last memory of your fish. I used to wrap mine up in wet paper towel so there was minimal stress, locate the head and crush it with a single hammer blow.
Sorry that you have to contemplate euthanasia though. Unfortunately with fish the burden has to fall to us.
