The two rescues + boy or girl?

I got these two from a lfs who has 30 of them crammed in a 3 gallon tank :( I named the steel blue DBT Sterling. They're both only an inch big, missing bits of their fins from the lfs, still in temp. setup... I haven't named the other one yet, I'm not even sure if he's a he or a she! If someone could help, it would be great! They gave me quite a scare by not eating for 2 days

This guy/ girl is unnamed, I think its a girl now, before I thought she must be a young male but I'm still not sure... I think I see an egg spot..




So guy or girl? Also, any other observations and suggestions are welcome! Thanks =)

I can't see an egg spot, so I'd still suppose that the second one's a male.
And they're both very cute! :)

I *had* a betta like that once. My sister got him for her sorority. It was abnormally aggressive, so we removed it. It turned out to be a male. The way I learned was by taking a mirror to the betta and making it flare. Let me put up some pics of what he looked like.

Notice the Flair in the last picture. It spreads down below the "chin".

If you can get some Flair pictures up, than we may be able to tell if it is a male or female.

I tried to make it flare but it's just too meek. Starts stressing out and trys to get away from the reflection... So I can't really see the beard :(.
I feel its a female but again, I'm not sure...

I can see a bit of an ovidepositer in the first picture of the unknown, so I am guessing its a she. :)
She has pretty long fins, but a few of my females have quite long fins, and they were originally thought to be boys, but they have VERY obvious ovidepositors.

They are both gorgeous! I especially love Sterling's colors. I also have a soft spot for DBT, so I'm kinda like drooling over him XD

I drew my conclusions from the first picture as well but then I've heard that young males sometimes have the spot as well... Bless camera zooms I can barely see the eggspot without it! I have a CT female who has very long fins (in my avatar) even I thought she was a boy especially since she was a hellraiser in the tank I got her from. I always wanted a DBT and Sterling was just so cute, I just couldn't leave him! With the big eyes and being so tiny, I want to squish him! (In a good way ) I think the shorter bodies make DBTs cuter! ^3^

my vote is girl. i see no beard, i see an ovipositor, she has short ventrals and rounded anal.

Yeah, so its a boy! His fins have grown out magnificently and he's flaring too! Total man fish! I named him Tranny, I think he's going to hate me... Will put up new and improved pictures soon!
