Here's my new guy, his name is Hubba Bubba Groovy Grape! But, you can just call him "Groovy" if you'd like!
He's such a pretty mix of purple, red, and blue, but his POOR torn up fins. His dorsal fin is torn near the back, one of his pelvic fins is down to just a nub, his anal fin is ripped off in a several places and his tail has pieces bitten off, too. I bought him yesterday (Tuesday here) afternoon, and the girl said that the little row of cells that suctions to the top of the tank to display the boys fell into the tank over the long weekend. Groovy and at least 1 of the other 3 boys got into it pretty good, as he and another one are pretty beaten up.
Anyway.... here he is...... Groovy!!
"Wwweeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!"
"How does this thing work?"
Ain't he GROOVY?! :)
Gawd... I can't get over how much I LOVE his colours!!
I noticed you were Australian when I read "I bought him yesterday (Tuesday here)" and I'm like, oh hey, it was Tuesday yesterday here too, I wonder where this person lives...
I've always wanted to live in the US, which country do you prefer?
@Ashleigh, I think probably the US..... more options on things to do, greater variety on products & services, things are cheaper... besides, I'm a bit biased since I've lived all but 7 years of my life there and I"m just used to it.
Another photo everyone:
Here's his bare tank. I've got the water salted to help his fins heal, so didn't want to put the plants in yet. I cleaned Leroy's tank really well, and even though the tank was cycled for Leroy, I put in all new filter media. So, Groovy gets lots of boring space for a week, then he'll think Christmas has come early when he starts getting stuff!

When I got Groovy Grape yesterday, I put him in a little 800ml container with salt for his fins. Also, he's only my 2nd betta I've had, I've read that many posters say that they get a new betta and are worried when they won't eat, sometimes for many days, that they're constipated, etc. So, in the container I could monitor a few things more easily and keep his water cleaner.
Anyway, I fed him a couple pellets yesterday and this morning in the little container and he just simply ate it. Later today after I put him in his 6+ gallon tank (above photo), I gave him 2 pellets to start, he saw them & swam up to them..... I thought "good, he recognizes that it's food".... and watched him grab those pellets like he was a great white shark attacking it's prey! Holly cow! Leroy was a calm eater... but Groovy is a pellet's worst nightmare! lol
I think he's a more mature betta than a couple of the others that were there. Some others were obviously younger due to their short, small bodies, but Groovy's a fairly big boy. So hopefully he's not over the hill and he's got a while to spend with me!
