Crack on bottom of tank; no sealant available

Well crap.
I just bought a new tank, and I filled it.
I found out theres a crack on the bottom.
Now, I don't have any sealant what so ever.
And my fish is currently in the tiniest bowl ever.

What should I do?

Is there any alternative to aquarium sealant.

I dont think so. Just take the tank back even if you dont have the recipt you can replace it. I would open the new one in the store just to be safe. A different type of sealant may be safe if it is applied on the outside of the glass but it would also have to be water proof.

I think it would be best to drain the tank and exchange it..You will have to drain it anyways to fix the leak with sealant and wait for the sealant to cure before refilling which takes 24-48 hours for the sealant to cure...I could be wrong..but..I don't believe there is a good alternative for aquarium sealant when it comes to repairing leaks...

I sincerely doubt it - I don't think that would be waterproof.

You are just going to have to talk SOMEBODY into taking you to exchange it.

I agree, talk someone into going to exchange it. Call the store and let them know it leaks and find out how long you have.

If your concerned about your fish being in a tiny container look around and see if you have something else to put him in temp. As long as you do water changes Betta are pretty forgiving about tank size. (look at how long they stay in the pet store cups.) You can keep him in a large food bowl too. Some Thai breeders breed them in salad type bowls, and cover the tanks with record sleeves. Just rinse it well first to remove any dust or soap residue. (don't use a bucket cleaning chemicals have been in.)

My sympathies to you though that your tank was cracked. If it is on the bottom its useless for fish now probably anyway. The bottom of a fish tank is usually tempered glass to take the strain of the water pressure and support the tank. The sides are made of weaker glass usually.

Best wishes! Hope someone will take you to exchange it soon! (don't forget to call the store to at least make sure they have a tank to replace it with lol)
