Unhappy Not sure what it is, but something is wrong. =/

My fish had been doing fine as far as I know until today when I did the usual water change, where he was really panicked for some reason.

So immediately once I put him back in, he started acting strangely. Just really nervous and swimming around frantically. He's usually a little spastic, but not nearly so much.

So I've been keeping an eye on him since then and he's getting worse. Like he just keeps floating straight up to the top and can't really seem to swim down. He's definitely trying to but just can't. So he's either really lifeless-seeming at the top trying to swim around or starts to float to his side.

It really doesn't look like his fins are hurts, so I don't know what's wrong. Could he just be really bloated or scared? Some other type of sickness? I feel really bad. It seems like he might be dying if he keeps floating like that and being unable to balance himself.

Ok, now I'm starting to see how bloated he is. Oof. =O

What should I do? All I really have for treatment is the API Aquarium Salt, not Epsom.

Try fasting him for a couple days. Is this all that's wrong with him? Bloating?

Sorry, I'm trying to find it! I've filled it out before but now I'm not seeing it, ha.

"Is this all that's wrong with him? Bloating?"

I'm guessing so. I don't think it's dropsy because his scales are fine and I don't see his fins being injured. He's just floating straight up to the top and can't swim any further down. Can he survive like that? Resting at the top against the tank?

As I said try fasting him a couple days. He may just be a little overfed. How much are you feeding him?

It's swim bladder disorder, from what you've said. I have a guy with it right now :P Kinda thrashes around trying to swim down, ends up laying at the top all lifeless? Yeah. It has to do with bloating, so you need to get Epsom salt as soon as you can. For now, just fast. What have you been feeding him?

Twice a day, two to three pellets each time. Too much?

Try soaking them first. My guy gets SBD if he eats them dry.

Poor guy!
Mine just looks so helpless and sad. Wants to swim freely but can't. Sad.

I'll get Epsom salt tomorrow! I looked around the house in case there may be some, but nope. Sigh.

Good call about soaking the pellets! I was doing that for awhile but got lazy and he seemed to be happily munching away at them anyway so I didn't think much of it.
