Genetics of Yellow

So i found a good website to finally do some of my research on genetics.
and I was reading about the different colors and layers and stuff like that.
It said that the color yellow was a recessive trait.
I do have one yellow VT(not planning on spawning it) but are yellows hard to come by? Or is it that yellow just isn't a particularly popular color for bettas?
I want to spawn and try to get my own "line" of something so i'm just trying to figure it all out :)

I know nothing about genetics. I failed science. lol I'm sure someone will come along to discuss this with you as we have several breeders who really know their stuff when it comes to breeding and genetics.

I'm no expert on yellow, but I know it is very recessive and difficult to create from scratch (you need the NR genes to show). Whites (opaque and platinum) are easier to work with. Instead of doing several spawns that may not even come close to yellow, many breeders prefer to work with other more definite colors.

So unless you plan on exclusively work with yellow/orange, I'd suggest you start with other colors.

I agree with Indjo, yellow is extremely recessive. Even if you have a yellow pair, it would take a few generations to get a line worth working with.
