Options for a 5 gallon?

So, I really enjoy my divided 10 gallon. I love having my four males. The tank looks neat and it's just... nice.

I bought a five gallon kit, and so I've got this lovely heated, fitlered thing with just one male betta in it. I was going to petsmart the other day to buy some plants for both tanks, to fill them in more. Well, plans changed (we adopted a cat, lol)

So I was thinking of getting a bunch of live plants in my 5 gallon, and getting some more fish. What would be good choices?

The aren't too many other fish that can go into a 5G. I would divide that and get two bettas for that one. But there are snails and shrimp...

You can't put any other fish in with a betta in a 5 gallon tank, its too small unfortunately, unless you divide it and get another betta.
You can get snails or shrimp if you wanted though to join the betta already in it.

I would get an apple snail or a ghost shrimp, but thats about all you can have for a 5G

Hmmm. I was hoping there'd be more options than shrimp.I don't care for snails much. All the ghost shrimp I buy turn into betta snacks. I guess I'll try again once I get my tanks more heavily planted. lol

If you took the betta out, you could get a few platies or guppies. (2 or 3) I believe (not sure) you could also get some cory cats if you took the betta out.

No. Platies I think need like 15 G and guppies are happiest in a 10G.

2 bettas (divided)
Shrimp
Snails

Nope, guppies can go in a 5 gallon tank, but you should only have two or three in there http://www.tropicalfishkeeping.com/profiles/guppy/
Platys tank size is kinda 5- 10 gallons I think (IMO). With platies in a 5 gallon tank I would keep two or three. I've kept them in that before fine.

But, again its that "Bigger the better" thing.

Well, I'll see about getting it super planted first, and then maybe I'll have better luck with some ghost shrimp. I think I just don't have enough cover for the poor guys. >>
