So I've had Ratchet the crowntail betta for almost 3 weeks. After a bout with Walmart neglect and probably ammonia poisoning and burns, he's finally healed and growing. He was just an unattractive, little gray male on their shelf over the sink, but I'm somehow automatically drawn to gray fish of any species.
Saw him and had to have him. He was doing terribly and I was almost certain he wouldn't last too long since he was in such horrible condition and the fact that he looked dead on our way out of the store. Some quarantine and clean water later and he was finally healthy enough to swim in more than a quarter of a gallon, so I moved him to his now filled divided 10 gallon home and got him a nice little cave and some nice plants too.
He gained some pretty colors and shimmers and started flaring again. He also gained a fierce attitude. And now, today, he built what is probably his very first bubble nest since he was a little juvenile when I bought him.
I'm so proud of little Ratchet.
