the guy at the pet store told me freeze dried bloodworms work just as well as the frozen blood worms with you are trying to condition a pair.. is this true?

It's widely believed that freeze dried foods lose a lot of its nutrients thus Fresh frozen foods are preferred.

a breeder in my area says he feeds his pairs mosquito larve, ants and other small insects. would those be healthy choices for conditioning?

IMO all natural little critters are good for bettas - that's what they eat in the wild.

Basically they need to be at least 4 months old. But IME you would get weaker fry from young females. I'd wait until she is about 3.5cm unless you know her age. But she sounds as if she can be bred.

Both male and female would flirt swim when they're ready to breed. If she is flaring in a way as if she wants to break through the glass - she is trying to fight.
