Is it frowned upon to fast them more than one day a week?

I'm just not really sure what to do anymore.
My fish just seems to have a near constant problem of constipation/bloating. I only feed him two to three soaked pellets daily for six days a week, with one day of fasting. By the second or third day though, usually, he is bloated and floating around at the top. I tried an Epsom salt bath once when it seemed severe and it helped, but was back to square one after a few days.

I tried switching to flakes to see if that would help, but it was worse. Could he be sick for this to happen so often? Once it passes, he is happy and looks healthy. Just doesn't seem normal for it to happen so much though.

Would fasting him more than one day a week help? Or something else? Thanks in advance!

mine did that yesterday. 2 days ago he looked bloated and i resolved to fast him the next day. when i arrived home he had let it out of his system. i have cut back on his meals from 3 pellets and a flake to 3 items only a day.

Thank you both! I might fast him maybe two days a week to three if he seems to have any more signs of constipation. He just doesn't require food almost every day, I don't think! Too much for him.

do you feed him the pellets all at one time? if you do, you could try spreading them out over the day and see if that helps

Both pellets and flake food have a very low moisture content (between 8% - 10%). You might try a combination of increased fasting (2x per week) and feeding predominately frozen or live foods to see if there is an improvement.

I fast my guys 1-3 days a week unless they're sick and need it for whatever reason.

Is it not true that halfmoons are easy to bloat?
