Algae "Farm"

There just isn't enough algae in my tank to keep my oto happy and I had heard of people taking 1 gallons and turning them into algae makers to feed their oto's. Have any of you done this? How did it work out? Am I just better off getting those nasty wafers?

Since our aquariums are closed systems it is difficult to meet the nutritional needs of the Oto with just the limited species of algae in the tank...they (proper school of Oto's) will need supplemented nutrition with a good varied diet that also includes algae wafers...they also enjoy fresh blanched veggies on a regular basis......how many do you have and what size tank are they in and species of live plants in the tank.....

I have 2 in a 10 gallon divided (they're in the section that's about 7 gallons) with a male betta and a mystery snail with a female betta on the other side of the divider. I don't have any live plants, I'm afraid they will just die. I just got the oto's this weekend so chances are they won't survive long anyways being delicate and me such a novice.

I have 2 algae eaters. And because my 10 gal dosent build algae, I put in the wafers. They seem to enjoy them and they are good for them...if you buy the right ones...

My algae eater likes shrimp pellets better than wafers. The wafers end up being eaten by the female bettas before the algae eater can finish it. The shrimp pellets are smaller and more condensed. He is able to keep it all to himself better.
