what's the oak used for?

I notice a lot of people use oak bark/leaves??? to help with new fish & illness..
Just wondering what it does to benefit the betta's?
Also where do people purchase it from?

Cheers K

Naturally dried and fallen from the tree Oak leaf...10-12 crushed per gallon of water.....the tannins from the oak leaf has a soothing effect for stress, antibacterial/fungal properties, softens the water a tiny bit.....they are a replacement for IAL (Indian almond leaf) great to use in a jug of pre-mixed treatment water or placed directly in the tank for the tannins.....

Don't think you can buy them...I get mine from my yard for Free.....
