Question terra cotta pots

Is there anything special needed to be done before putting terra cotta pots in tanks?

Rinse well in straight hot water.

Either plug the hole with gravel & aquarium silicone or gently knock the bottom out. Sand the edges smooth - it sands VERY easily. :)

Don't want your curious betta getting his little head stuck in the drainage hole! :)

I've already knocked the bottom out and sanded it down. The breeder I got my fish from told me that one of her boys got stuck in a terra cotta pot hole and gouged out a chunk along his back. She had to squeeze him out of the hole and then hold him in her hand while putting polysporin on his back. The fish lived, and he was GORGEOUS! She wouldn't sell him though, cause of all they'd been through together (I wouldn't either, if he was mine...). :)

I'm thinking that that fish was most likely the father of my new dragon boy, Arthur...so I'm kinda glad he survived...
