Heat of the tank

my fish tank seems to be getting up to about 85 probably because it's been between 98 and 102 degrees and we have no air conditioning.
is this really bad? or dangerous for my boys?
I've also got a heater in the tank that my friend said I should keep on because if it gets cold in the middle of the night ( it sometimes does) it could be bad.

yeh its good that they automatically turn on and off with the temp but in summer here in australia my tanks (ideally 24 usually) but can get up to 30 in the heat, so i usually float a ziplock bag of ice in the tank to chill it some what but i usually need to replace it every few hours but it helps
