Question cycle tank with borrowed media

I have a 5 gallon tank cycling with raw shrimp. This is the first time I have cycled with media from and establihed tank. My question is, after the tank cycles, and then removing the borrowed media - isn't that going to mess with the amount of bacteria working? When is it safe to remove the borrowed media?

I don't know but I'd check nitrate, nitrite and ammonia levels after removing it.
