Shy betta or sad betta??

Hi I'm mandy,

I'm new to this site and i just recently got a Crowntail male betta(Monty).
I got him yesterday and he seemed pretty active in his little contianer at petsmart. Now that he's in his new bowl he just seems to lounge around and floats in behind his plant... is he just shy & still adjusting or is he sad?
he also hasn't eaten much, i fed him some betta pellets & he'd eat then spit some out

Welcome to the forum and to the wonderful world of Betta keeping.....

He may need more time to adjust...some take longer than others......to be sure...we need some more information....

How many gallons is his tank, water temp, filter, live plants, additives used, type of source water....tap-well water...etc how did you acclimate him to the new tank....what is your water change plan schedule, type of food offered.....
